Sky blue and Kansas city kick off nwsl on saturday

Sky blue and Kansas city are going to be kicking off the anticipated 2014 nwsl season on Saturday 8:00pm at FC Kansas city’s home ground at the Verizon Wireless Field! It will be the second time sky blue kicks start the nwsl into motion as last year it was Sky blue and Portland Thorns who played in the nwsl very first game!

On the match on Sunday being played at Kansas city’s new stadium at University of Missouri in Kansas… so it will mean alot to Kansas city not to jinx (do people actually still use that word.. who knows I just did anyway) their new home with a loss….. they really do need a win!

Remember you can watch this game free and all the other nwsl games streamed LIVE on the official nwsl YouTube channel!

For this particular game go to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GYw6LIQ9jlc (dont try watching the game just yet as YouTube cannot see into the future…no matter how many ads you watch… you’ll just see a black screen)

Sky blue will be playing host later on, when at their home stadium Yurcak Field they will be taking on the NWSL champions Portland Thorns on April 19th!

For fc Kansas city they will be playing away in their next 4 matches against the like of Washington spirit and Portland Thorns they will then return back to their brand new stadium again when they play Chicago Red stars which will be on 30th april, so lets hope they havnt jinxed the stadium for that game!

Red stars against Kansas city 1-1

You could say when two teams battle it out so close to the start of the season the season has already unofficially begun! At the very least it is a very good indicator of what is to come when the season does kick off, and it looks as though its is a level playing field well it is with Kansas city and red stars anyway! The two teams played a exhibition match with the final score being 1-1.

No goals were scored in the first half and it looked by the looks of things fans thought that neither side would be able to break the other but in the second half things really did get shaken up as 51 minutes into the game who is to score? but only Alyssa Mautz! after receiving the ball from the left side from Adriana Leon she managed to whip it passed the Kansas city goalkeeper putting the Red stars into the lead and making Kansas city and you would have thought that this would have made Kansas city very nervous… but they held it together.

When it looked like it was going the red star’s way in the 83rd minute of the game Kansas city grabbed the equalizer as Melissa Henderson after some confusing trickery and skill from her team mates Maegan Kelly and Jen Buczkowski managed to pass it into the net as they broke down the red stars defense.

It even looked like Kansas city may have even been able to score another as they put immense pressure on the red star defense but time just wasn’t on their side and the game ended 1-1.

Great stuff, lets hope that this sort of play and close matches will continue when the nwsl starts!

But a lot of side we are seeing are not getting the goals in take for example sky blue vs Penn state which was a nil nil draw… but at least Washington Spirit have something to celebrate and be positive about as they get ready to start the next season of the NWSL as they beat North Carolina university in their exhibition match which ended 2-0.

If i was coach I would probably not play exhibition matches with good teams so close to the start of the season (especially if the team is new to the season as well) only bad ones to give the team a boost in confidence so when the team is going into the season they have the attitude of being unbeatable… because it may be a bit deflating otherwise to know your place even before the season starts?

Kansas City signs Jen Buczkowski

Jen Buczkowski proved herself as a great defensive midfielder last season and it would be a great shame if Kansas city let her go but they aren”t doing this as they have just signed a new contract with her. Jen Buczkowski has a new contract which spans through the 2015 season of the NWSL it has been officially announced. In a interview with the technical director for the side Huw Williams he said that Kansas city is panning on improving the team with new player signings but also wants to keep the team strong with proven “core” players he said. He also added that there was unfinished business that needs to be put to the resat from last season. It is good that Kansas city is not neglecting its current players. It is no surprise that Buczkowski has been signed again especially because she was such a strong part of the team it would have been silly to let her go. Last season Buczkowski managed to play all 22 games. She has commented on the new contract saying that she is really excited to get another season playing for the Kansas side especially for the long term! Kansas city is also letting out four of its current players to the play in the US national team roster, with 9 in total nwsl players playing in this tournament it is clear that Kansas city has a large proportion of sought after players.

Kansas city signs two new contracts

Kansas city have been busy as they have announced that they have signed two new contracts for one old and one new player

Leigh Ann Robinson has been signed to a new contract for Kansas city.

Kansas city has recently announced how they have given Leigh Ann Robinson a new contract for the next season of the NWSL. The defender has spoken out about her new contract saying just how excited she is to be in the team going right through the 2015 season, she also said how she feel that the Kansas team really strengthened last season as well.. is this a hint that many of the older players will also be getting renewals in their contracts as well?

Robinson started with the team in 2013 and was one of the first players to get signed with the new team. Leigh has made a name for her self as a really good defender that will always fight for the ball last season she managed 6 assists and in considered one of the best defenders in the national women’s soccer league.

The technical director for Kansas city Huw Williams also spoke out about the new contracting saying how her leadership and team player qualities really make her a important player in the team and is just why she is one for the best players for the team.

Preseason training for the Kansas team starts on march 10 in preparation for the next nwsl season which will start on april 12th, the first match of the season will be against sky blue fc and Kansas city.

Fc kansas city has also announced yet another signing this time it is Katrina Gorry

Kansas city hasnt until now made a international signing before, but all that has changed as the Kansas team has now signed Katrina Gorry who is from Melborune, Australia. She will be added to the team later on in the NWSL season in June. Katrina is already in the Australian national team and plays in mid field… the 21 year old is said to be very excited at being signed.

Huw Williams has said that he asked his team who they would like to see play for them next season and Katrina was mentioned a couple times by the players which is really good showing she has the other players respect and confidence even before she joined up.
