Prospective WPS player Tiffany Weimer is playing with the WPSL’s SoccerPlus CT Reds this summer to keep her game sharp and blogging about her experience for womensprosoccer.com.

Tiffany Weimer tallied two goals and two assists in the Reds 10-0 season-opening victory over the Massachusetts Stingers.

Reds Media Day

The SoccerPlus Education Center, covered with Adidas and SoccerPlus CT Reds Logos, was the site for our second annual Reds Media Day.

Looking on, it wouldn’t seem like a tremendous news story.  There were about eight players from the team on hand, because everyone else was still taking finals.

There were a few photographers, Fox61 News crew and some newspaper reporters.

Standing in the front of the room were a few men in suits and ties, a podium with a microphone and a bunch of chairs lined up facing them.

As it may not have been obvious, there stood an extraordinary news story with lots of very important people in a small room.

Introducing the day, for the second year in a row, was ESPN announcer, JP Dellacamera, who we have the privilege of having right down the street from our facilities.

Sitting at the table next to the podium were Tony DiCicco and Boston Breakers President & General Manager, Joe Cummings.

Also in attendance were Janusz Michallik, a former US National Team member; Chris Bart-Williams, a former Sheffield Wednesday and Nottingham Forest player; and Joe Ferrara, the Eastern League commissioner for the WPSL.

Why would all these people attend a Media day for the Reds?

Well, when Cummings was at the podium speaking, he talked about anticipation for WPS next year and how teams like the Reds would serve as a feeder team to the Breakers.  There were players and coaches in that room who would be apart of the league next year and the Red’s season is important for that very reason.

Reds Opening Day

Last week, we played our first match of the 2008 season.  For some of us, it was our first real game since last August.

We ended up beating the Massachusetts Stingers 10-0 in front of a loyal crowd of supporters who sat in 90 minutes of continuous rain.

The Stingers actually beat us last season, so for those who were there last year, it was a bit of revenge as well as a great start to the season.

The first game of any season is always interesting, because no one ever knows what to expect.  Beating a team 10-0 doesn’t sound like much was taken from the game, but we saw glimpses of greatness and came together as a team with enough discipline to get a shutout and I think that sets the tone early for the rest of season.

The SoccerPlus CT Reds travel to Bangor, Me. to face the Maine Tide on Saturday, May 17 at 4pm EST.
